Origin and Habitat: Madagascar, Tulear/Saint-Augustin region and on some high plateau inselbergs. Euphorbia alluaudiiSN|27008]]SN|27008]] subsp. oncoclada has an extent of occurrence of 67,557.4 km² and an area of occupancy of 19,696.7 km². Recorded from 20 localities and comprises four to five subpopulations.

Euphorbia alluaudii Drake: Shrub or small tree with, virgate, cylindrical branches, procumbent from the base. Distribution: South-west Madagascar, extending towards the central high-plateau.
Euphorbia alluaudii f. criatata hort.: Crested form.
Euphorbia alluaudii subs. oncoclada (Drake) F.Friedmann & Cremers: has thicker sausage-like joints about 2,5 cm wide with prominent leaf scars. Distribution: Tulear/Saint-Augustin region.
